How OPDV Can Help: Training
Domestic Violence and the Workplace Training Announcement
About the Training:
This interactive training is sponsored by The New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) and is specifically designed for implementation of Executive Order #19. New York State employees who are designated as an Agency/OPDV Liaison, or NYS employees who are designated to provide services to those in need, are asked to complete this one-day training prior to providing services. Managers and supervisors are also encouraged to attend.*
Training will prepare staff to:
- better understand the dynamics of domestic violence,
- identify possible signs and indicators of victimization,
- make appropriate referrals to domestic violence service providers,
- work with professionals to assist identified victims with safety planning, and
- develop individualized responses in recognition of the physical, social and cultural realities that may affect an individual victim’s situation.
Training will also include information on the ways in which domestic violence impacts the workplace, including potential impact on worker productivity and the safety risks to on-site personnel and visitors.
*OPDV recommends that all NYS employees receive training on domestic violence. Training materials approved by or provided by OPDV can be incorporated into existing trainings including but not limited to union and management training programs, agency training programs, EAP trainings, and Code Rule 827 Public Employer Workplace Violence Prevention training.
